Breast Cancer: allowing all women to get screened

Breast cancer represents the first cause of death for females in all age groups. Mass screening is the way to reduce Breast cancer mortality rate. Currently, screening is performed using conventional mammography. However, conventional mammography has some shortcomings such as ionizing radiation (X-rays) and breast crushing. Moreover:

  • Breast screening using conventional mammography is limited to females in the age 50/ 69 years only
  • Breast screening using conventional mammography is performed every 2 years
  • In Italy we have that 56% of females in the age 50/ 69 years sits for breast screening examination

In the context of the strategies for prevention, a fundamental step is represented by extending the screening (more age group and more frequent). MammoWave, our X-rays free mammogram which uses no ionizing radiation, can play a key role.
