Cancer prevention is any action taken by a given subject to decrease the chance of getting cancer. In this way, we can decrease the number of deaths caused by cancer.

The scientists agree that there are basically two ways of doing cancer prevention. One way is the reduction of the cancer risk factor. The other way is to increase the cancer protective factor.

Cancer risk factor and cancer protective factor

To prevent new cancers from starting, scientists look at risk factors and protective factors. Anything that increases your chance of developing cancer is called a cancer risk factor; anything that decreases your chance of developing cancer is called a cancer protective factor.
We can avoid some cancer risk factor. For example: smoking, having unhealthy nutrition and a sedentary lifestyle.
On the other side a regular exercise and a healthy diet may be protective factors for some types of cancer.
You can find a wonderful and comprehensive overview of cancer prevention, cancer risk factor and cancer protective factor in the movie: THE C WORD. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, THE C WORD message is simple, life-changing, radical: we can beat cancer before cancer beats us.

UBT is proud to having participated to the European Premier of the movie THE C WORD http://www.thecwordmovie.com/ hosted by the 2016 Global Innovation And New Technology health event, London, UK.
